Teeter Board Painting Instructions

Teeter Specifications:        USDAA = 36"        AKC = 42" +/- 1/4"

Materials needed:
                                1     Teeter Board
1     Half gallon white primer/sealer outdoor paint
1     Half gallon color of your choice paint (Blue & Red are most popular)
1     Quart of yellow paint (for contacts)
1     Bag of Children's play sand
1      Roll paint trim tape (masking tape will work in a pinch)
                                1     Tape measure
                                1     Carpenters T-square
1     Set painting accessories (roller, brush, etc....)

STEPS
1    Remove the teeter board from the teeter base.

2    Place the teeter board, top surface down, on supports, in a dry well ventilated area, where it can be left for an extended period of time to dry properly.

3    Clean the board surface with a damp cloth to remove any loose dirt or dust from the board, and let dry completely.

4    Paint the surface of the board with primer/sealer paint.  Wait until dry.  Repeat this step for each coat of primer/sealer.  ( We recommend at least 3 coats of primer)

5    Flip the board over and repeat step 3 & 4 for the bottom surface making sure to cover the sides and ends of the teeter board.

6    Using a pencil and tape measure, measure and mark the contact distance (36" USDAA or 42" AKC) from one end of the teeter board with a light line.

7    Repeat step 6 for the other end of the teeter board.

8    Apply trim tape to the contact side of the lines drawn in step 6.
Important note ***  Mounting holes for the Metal Board Attachment should not be facing up. ***

9    Paint the top surface of the teeter board with one coat of paint.

10    Let this coat dry completely.

11    Apply another coat of paint.   Immediately sprinkle a generous amount of sand over the entire painted surface of the teeter board.    Wait for the coat of paint and sand to dry.

12    Turn the teeter board on its side and rattle it so any loose sand will fall off the board.

13    Repeat steps 9-12 until the last layer of sand is removed from the teeter board (3 sand layers at least produces good footing).

14    Apply one last coat of paint.  Do not apply sand to this last coat.  Let dry.

15    Flip the teeter board over and repeat steps 8-14 eliminating the sand application (no sand is needed on the lower side of the teeter)..  Include the sides of the teeter board being careful to meet the contact lines on either side of the teeter board.

16    Remove the trim tape from the teeter board surfaces.

17    Place new trim tape on the opposite side of the contact line on the newly painted surface.

18    Repeat steps 8-17 with yellow contact paint.

19    Remount the teeter board and enjoy this wonderful piece of equipment with your dog(s).

NOTE *** The teeter should be repainted as soon as it shows any signs of wear or damage to preserve the wood for years to come. ***
